We recommend that you lay something down from your entrance to the fireplace.  We do the rest.

Birds’ nests can be a problem - rooks nest year after year, so if you haven’t yet lit your first fire, twigs in the grate may be an indication (smoke testers are available)

First of all I lay a clean dust sheet with a second dust sheet on top of that. Your fireplace will be sealed, chimney swept, vacuumed, all soot and debris removed and disposed of in the correct manner.
